Dextrose Injections and Constitution (Bodytype)

It seems that people who say that a dextrose injection can cause addiction are speaking nonsense. Dextrose injections supposedly supply the most basic nutrients through the blood vessels for people with serious illnesses who are not able to eat. I have not been able to make this idea known to the public for thirty years and have told only those in need of this knowledge, since this idea has not been confirmed by any medical practice or theory other than the Eight Constitutions Medicine. Therefore, I feel that I need to be very discreet in writing regarding this.

Dextrose, a Poison to the Hepatonia Constitution

Fifteen or sixteen years ago, a professor at an American medical school was seeing me because he was suffering from speech loss and the disability of his left arm and leg after a cerebral tumor surgery. One day this professor showed me a report that his colleague had written a few years prior. He was reminded of the report when he happened to overhear me telling one of my patients that it was too dangerous for him to get a dextrose injection. The report indicated the possibility that dextrose might be toxic to people. That report was very exciting to me, because I could finally hear an echo to my own voice.

A dextrose injection is not poisonous for everyone, but it is poisonous for hepatonia individuals. Dextrose injections can enhance the already strong liver function of the hepatonia constitution. Because dextrose strengthens the liver, we do not encourage hepatonia individuals to eat vegetables, most of which contain a good deal of dextrose. The liver has a great affinity for dextrose, and dextrose is a nutrient that supports the function of the liver. We can say that our body cells are supplied with dextrose with the help of the liver. Therefore, all the cells of hepatonia individuals have been built up under the influence of their liver, and this also implies the possibility of excessive liver function.

Then why is injected dextrose poisonous to the hepatonia constitution, whereas rice, which is converted into dextrose through digestion, is harmless? Mysteriously, dextrose supplied from food is stored in the form of glycogen in the liver so that the amount of dextrose in the blood would not exceed the required amount to maintain a state of equilibrium.  However, the amount of dextrose injected directly into the bloodstream cannot be controlled according to the particular needs of an individual’s constitution.

About ten years ago, I received a phone call telling me that the father of one of my friends had passed away. By the time I reached their residence, the door was already closed, and I was told that there was no need for me to go in. But I went in, and after looking at the father’s supposedly dead body, I realized that his pulse was still beating. Even though his wife did not expect that it was possible for him to be resuscitated, she did not want me to give up on him. As I already knew that he had the hepatonia constitution, I took out the needles and started treatment for the hepatonia constitution, praying that something would happen. After I finished the treatment, my friend’s older brother called me into a room to talk about what had happened before his father passed away. Just at that moment, somebody shouted, “Father is alive!” When we went to look, his father was sitting up and looking around (probably because of pupil dilation). When I checked his pulse, he was completely alive. I told everyone that he was alive. Then somebody asked, “What was the reason for his ‘death’?” I told them that to me the case looked like dextrose poisoning and that I would like to hear what had happened. They related the following story to me: The father, who was a doctor, went to his hometown with his wife to visit his old house. On his way back, he started feeling sick, so he stopped by the house of one of his students, who was also a doctor, and received a dextrose injection. About ten minutes after he got a dextrose injection, he went into a coma and did not wake up for nine days. The doctor told his family to bring him back home, since it did not seem that he would live any longer. He seemingly passed away that night. However, after he was revived through my treatment, he lived for another six years and was even able to celebrate his golden wedding anniversary before he actually passed away.

Dr. Myeong-bok Lee, a professor at Seoul Medical School, called me about twelve years ago. He told me that he had remembered my saying to someone that it is possible to die from a dextrose injection, and he asked me whether it was true. Then he told me that such an incident had actually happened. I asked whether the person who died had a quiet personality, and Dr. Lee said that the one who died was an introverted person. I told him that to die from a dextrose injection was possible. He came to see me right away.

Dr. Lee related the situation and asked me how it could have possibly happened. I explained it to him using a ruler as a metaphor. If his ruler measures by metric units and mine measures by footage, he would laugh at me when I say that something is one unit, while his measurement is three units. But eventually, he will realize that I am not wrong. Likewise, in science, when there is a shift in paradigm, people start to see things that they did not see before. Two years later, Dr. Lee and I got together at a year-end party, and he told me that he could now discern which constitution could be poisoned by a dextrose injection. However, he still felt that it would be too imprudent to tell people about it, because people might think it was nonsense.

Dextrose remains an indispensable nutrient for hepatonia individuals, but when they receive an excessive amount through an injection, there is a possibility that the cells in their body could be poisoned.

Dextrose Injection, a Medicine to Pulmotonia

Depending on one’s constitution, however, dextrose can be more than merely a basic nutrient. For pulmotonia individuals, it can even serve as a medicine that can heal incurable diseases.

About five months ago, a man in his seventies came to see me and told me that he was taken to the hospital with palsy three months prior to that time. Since there was no chance of recovery for him at that time, all they could do was to give him dextrose injections. Strangely enough, he started gaining consciousness and became completely well without any treatment other than the dextrose injections. His doctor thought that it was a miracle and he, an elder of a church, considered his recovery to be grace from God. As I was listening to him, I thought that he might be an individual with the pulmotonia constitution, which turned out to be true. I explained to him that it was God’s grace that since no other treatment would work for him, he was limited to receiving dextrose injections, which were exactly what he needed.

Because the cells of pulmotonia individuals are always under the influence of the weak function of the liver, the injection of dextrose can make up for this weakness. Therefore, it is a rational treatment, and not merely a miracle, for pulmotonia individuals to receive dextrose injections. We therefore encourage pulmotonia individuals to eat vegetables, which are rich in dextrose.

Recently, a patient visited me with a red, swollen face and red blotches all over his arms and legs. When I asked him what had happened, he said that he had been treated for chronic hepatitis, but his doctor had to discontinue his treatment, because red spots began to appear over his entire body. The hepatitis level in his body had actually increased from 60 to 3,000. He considered it to be a sign of healing and decided to continue with the treatment for another year and four months. Eventually, he could not endure the pain, and he stopped the treatment. After that experience, he tried some other forms of treatment, but they were all ineffective. He started getting dextrose injections just to regain some strength, and his hepatitis level decreased from 3,000 to 80. Surprised at the effect of dextrose, he remembered someone telling him that the effect is related to body constitution, and he came to see me. He was obviously an individual with the pulmotonia constitution. Since then, he has been receiving treatment for the pulmotonia constitution. Although he has not yet had another hepatitis examination, he has fully recovered.

What then is dextrose, and how can it be deadly poisonous to some people, and, at the same time, an amazing medicine that heals other people? Dextrose may not be highly regarded, since it is a basic nutrient, yet it has the power to damage or restore cells. By limiting or supplying dextrose, people can be healed. Therefore, the Eight Constitutions Medicine says that hepatonia individuals should not receive dextrose injections, while pulmotonia individuals derive benefit from them.

Dextrose injections may not affect other constitutions as extremely as they affect the hepatonia and pulmotonia constitutions. However, individuals with the cholecystonia, vesicotonia, and renotonia constitutions can be regarded as being in the same category as hepatonia individuals, who experience negative effects due to dextrose, while colonotonia, pancreotonia and gastrotonia individuals can be categorized with pulmotonia individuals, who experience positive effects from dextrose.

GOLD AND BODYTYPE

Gold is a rare and precious metal and is highly valued in most people’s estimation. A gold crown is worn by royalty, and a gold medal is the highest award one can receive in a competition. In the East or the West, past or present, human beings have always desired to have gold. For this reason, gold is considered to be the finest material for metal arts and the value of gold is also used as the monetary standard in many countries around the world.

As far as healthcare is concerned, gold is also said to be beneficial. There is an old saying that a gold tooth is better than a tonic. It is probable that this saying was made up by someone who felt healthier after getting a gold tooth put in. Gold also does not change or rust. Therefore, it is only natural for gold to always be considered as beneficial.

If it were said that gold can be poisonous, or that one can contract a disease from touching gold, such statements would not gain agreement. Nevertheless, it is certain that gold can be poisonous to some people.

The theory of eight constitutions states that gold can be a fearful poison to the pulmotonia constitution. This theory was presented in 1965 when the Eight Constitutional Medicine was presented for the first time at an international conference. Since that time,

I have informed pulmotonia individuals of this fact. As a result, many pulmotonia individuals who had diseases with an unknown cause were healed after they got their gold teeth removed. This caused people to realize more and more how poisonous gold could actually be.

About 15 years ago, a woman brought her daughter, a junior high student, to my clinic. The girl’s left cheekbone was bulging out, but it did not seem to be swollen, and the color was the same as the right cheekbone. The woman said that all of a sudden her daughter’s left cheekbone started to look different. It was growing bigger and bigger, but the daughter did not complain about any pain. The woman took her daughter to a few doctors, but they could not identify the cause of the problem. They merely told her to wait and see. I would have had to say the same thing to her, but the girl was found to be an individual with the pulmotonia constitution. When I took a look inside her mouth, I found three gold teeth. Her mother also recalled that her daughter’s cheekbone began to bulge out after she got her gold teeth. I told the mother to take her daughter to a dentist and have him take out the gold teeth. But their dentist would not do it, so I had to take her to a dentist I was acquainted with. After the surgery, I brought her to my office and performed a simple detoxifying treatment. Two days later her cheekbone was fully recovered to a normal condition.

Another illustration involves a Japanese couple who visited me from Tokyo seven years ago. Although the woman looked healthy and had no particular medical history, she felt that her mouth had become increasingly dry. She felt as if the inside of her mouth and her throat were drying up. She visited all the well-known hospitals and still could not find the cause of her condition. This symptom was spreading throughout her body and she was complaining that she felt like she might die. After I found out that she was an individual with the pulmotonia constitution, I asked her about the condition of her teeth; all her upper and lower teeth were capped with gold. I explained to her how gold teeth could negatively affect pulmotonia individuals, and she went back to Tokyo to get her gold teeth removed. But no dentist in Tokyo would remove her gold caps, so she had to go back to her hometown and ask one of her old friends who was a dentist to do it. Later on, she came all the way from Japan to visit me again to inform me that she was healed by the time she had two thirds of her gold teeth removed.

The third story is about a famous table tennis player during the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. She visited me a month before the Games started and said that she would faint every time she went to the training room to practice. Her doctor diagnosed her with a weak liver and told her to rest and take medications, but even after she tried to follow the doctor’s instructions, she still experienced dizziness and could not practice well. I was worried that there would not be enough time to help her before the Games began. When I examined her, I found that she was an individual with the pulmotonia constitution. I asked her whether she had any gold teeth, and she said that she had three. She seemed to have a hunch that her dizziness had something to do with her gold teeth. Luckily, her dentist took out all her gold teeth at her request, and she could resume her training. Eventually she won a gold medal at the Games.

These cases prove that gold has a poisonous effect on pulmotonia individuals. However, it is well-known that gold can help some individuals with rheumatoid arthritis, even though it can have bad side effects on others. Then why is gold poisonous to pulmotonia individuals and medicinal to others?

The reason is that gold causes an imbalance among the organs of pulmotonia individuals, who have naturally strong lungs, by causing their lungs to be even stronger. Gold also helps to reduce the imbalance among the organs of other constitutions that are characterized by weak lungs, and gold helps to cure diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis.

Hepatonia individuals, who have weak lungs by birth, have a strong liver. This constitution shows a different reaction to gold.

One day, a lawyer’s young wife, who had been suffering from severe rheumatoid arthritis, came to see me after having visited various clinics. Since she was an individual with the hepatonia constitution, I recommended that she receive injections of gold. Fortunately, she found a doctor who gave people gold injections, and she was able to be treated by him. After half a year she came to visit me and told me that she was completely healed through receiving the gold injections. There are also more cases of other hepatonia patients who went to the same doctor to get gold injections. The injections had a favorable effect on them. But I heard that the doctor discontinued the injections after his supply of gold ran out, probably thinking that to use gold injections was too dangerous.

Gold is definitely a precious metal to the hepatonia constitution, but it is poisonous to the pulmotonia constitution. Cholecystonia and pancreotonia fall into the same category as hepatonia, although individuals with these constitutions would not receive as much benefit from gold. Colonotonia, gastrotonia, and vesicotonia are in the same category as pulmotonia, even though individuals with these constitutions may not have such a strong negative reaction to gold.

Let Us Learn about the Eight Constitutions (Bodytype)

People have different hobbies and tastes. Some people might enjoy and benefit from taking a cold bath or sponge-bathing with cold water, whereas others enjoy going to a spa or a sauna.
For a long time, mineral water, or acidic water, has been known to be good for curing stomach troubles and skin diseases. People would travel long distances to find mineral water, and they would drink it or bathe in it. But these days, people say that alkalinic water is healthier, so they electrolyze water to separate the alkalinic water from the acidic water and drink only the alkalinic water while discarding the acidic water.

There were people who claimed that Asians should eat more meat, since their average physical stature is smaller than that of Western people, who are accustomed to eating meat. These days, people also say that eating vegetables helps prevent and cure diseases.

When people started to hear about vitamins, they thought that vitamins were organic substances. They also considered that the more vitamins they took, the better. But later, they began to see problems from an excessive intake of vitamins, and they also realized that taking vitamins could be harmful to people.

The traditional way to practice abdominal breathing is to hold breath in the abdomen and breathe it out quickly. But now there are people who claim that the exhaling should be longer while the inhaling should be shorter.

A few years ago, I had an opportunity to give a lecture at Ko-ryo University, and I mentioned some breathing methods. After the lecture, some students came up to me and told me that even though they had tried breathing in the way they had learned (long inhalation and short exhalation), it was painful for them. When they tried the other way (short inhalation and long exhalation), they felt more comfortable. So I had to explain the reason to them based on the Eight Constitutions Medicine.

As we have seen above, there are various items that can be both medicinal to some people and, at the same time, poisonous to others. These items are dextrose, antibiotics, aspirin, and gold. However, the reason for this has not yet been proven scientifically. Frequently, people promote the way of eating that works for themselves, not realizing that what works for them could be deadly for other people. Since this is the case, it would be better to maintain a balanced diet, as recommended by modern dieticians.

The Reason People Have Different Constitutions

How can we explain the reason for the various examples described above? We cannot explain it if we hold on to the thought that everyone has the same constitution. However, the Eight Constitutions Medicine, which claims that there are eight types of constitutions among human beings, can provide the reason. This medical practice says that depending on the constitutional organ mechanism, something that is good for one individual could be harmful to another individual, and that something that is beneficial to one individual could be poisonous to another individual.
The eight constitutions refer to the eight arrangements of the internal organs according to their strength and weakness; these organs include the heart, lungs, pancreas, liver, kidneys, small intestines, large intestines, stomach, gallbladder, urinary bladder, and the sympathetic nerve system and parasympathetic nerve system of the autonomic nerve system. A ninth constitution does not exist. We should realize that the eight constitutions are complete individual arrangements and are not a product of mere human imagination. Some may consider the eight constitutions to be merely a further step of division from the theory of four body types, which is also called Sasanguihak (a theory concerning four body types, which was originally designed by Lee Che-ma, a prestigious doctor of the late Choson period), or they may suppose that body types could be even further divided into 16 constitutions. But this is an irrational conclusion stemming from ignorance regarding what a constitution is.

The only way to determine each of the eight constitutions is through a pulse-examining method, which can be done on the radius arteries located on the wrists. Through this method we can identify any one of the eight pulse formations; an individuals pulse formation will never change throughout his lifetime.
We cannot help but admire the law of creation, in which the degree of vitality of different organs can be discovered only though the radius arteries. Those who have the same pulse formation have the same physical and mental expression, the same pathology, the same response to food and medicines, and they can also be healed of the same diseases through the same treatment.
In order to find a ninth constitution, I spent an even longer time than I needed to find the eight constitutions, but I could not find it. There must be only eight human constitutions, and all areas in human life can also be classified into eight categories. Every individual should know what constitution he has, and as of now, the only way to determine this is by conducting a pulse examination. The examination can be done only by those who pass through a certain kind of training.

However, any individual can also attempt to identify their constitution through self-examination: by making comparisons between themselves and the following characteristics of each constitution.

Hepatonia
Most hepatonia individuals have a large body frame. Like a snowman, they have narrow shoulders and the lower body is larger; their waist is the biggest part of their body. Sweating indicates good body condition, and when they are sick, sweating makes them feel better. A higher-than-average blood pressure is a sign of health for them.
They usually do not talk much, and they get tired from talking. Because they experience fatigue easily, many individuals with the hepatonia constitution are tone-deaf. They easily sprain their left ankle and experience having more disorders on the left side of their body than the right side. When they eat too many vegetables or too much fish, they feel fatigued, their eyes hurt, or their feet feel heavy.
Their skin color lightens from eating meat and from taking hot baths, and it darkens from eating vegetables and fish and from taking cold baths.

Cholecystonia
Cholecystonia individuals have bowel movements frequently, but this symptom has nothing to do with the condition of their health. When they are not healthy, they experience certain conditions such as an uneasy feeling around their navel, low body temperature, and sleeping problems.
Because they have weak emotions, they are easily affected by other people’s words. They are quick-tempered but not stubborn. The right side of their body is relatively weak. Their stomach feels upset when they eat vegetables and fish.

Pancreotonia
Pancreotonia individuals are quick-tempered. They always blurt things out before they think about it. They do not like being at the same place for long, and they enjoy being active and finding things to do. They are good at taking the lead to arrange things for others, but they are poor at completing tasks.
They also have a strong digestive capacity, and many of them are painters, because they have sound visual skills. Many of those who practice celibacy are pancreotonia individuals. They get gray hairs earlier than others. They usually have a low blood pressure, and they feel sick with even a slight increase in their blood pressure. They tend to have diseases on the left side of their body and become an easy target of vitiligo. They go to bed early and wake up early.

Gastrotonia
Gastrotonia individuals are rare. These are the individuals who go into shock from ingesting penicillin. They do not get minor ailments and hate going to the doctor. The right side of their body is relatively weak.
Gastrotonia individuals are characterized by the symptom of constipation. They usually have bowel movement every two days, but some of them have bowel movement only once every three to seven days, but they do not experience pain from constipation. When they are in good health, they do not sweat much, but when they are not healthy, they sweat excessively.
Gastrotonia individuals become weak in the spring and summer, and they tend to be healthy in fall and winter. Children who suffer from sunstroke are gastrotonia individuals. They usually have a good body shape with broad shoulders, a slender waist and nicely shaped buttocks. They are very meticulous and organized, and are skeptical about other people. Swimming and taking sponge baths with cold water are good for them. They are very athletic and are good at any kind of sports. They usually contract ailments on the left side of their body.

Vesicotonia
Vesicotonia individuals are susceptible to gastric atony and gastroptosis. They remain healthy if they eat a small amount at each meal; even a normal amount of food for others can be excess for them. For these individuals, the first sign of an unhealthy condition is an uneasy feeling in the stomach. Their feces tend to be mushy, and they are easily exhausted after having diarrhea. All the diseases that are contracted by these individuals start from the right side of their body. Barley and pork are poisonous to them.

Pulmotonia
The lower part of their head tends to stick out more than the upper part. They do not like to attract attention, and they prefer being creative rather than imitative. They will always suffer from allergies unless they avoid eating meat. Atopic dermatitis is one of the peculiar diseases that these individuals can contract due to eating meat. Gold teeth are poisonous for them, and they easily experience static from synthetic fibers. All sorts of medicine are harmful for them. These individuals contract diseases more in the left side of their body than the right side.

Colonotonia
Colonotonia individuals are quick-tempered and experience inertia on the right side of their body when they get angry. They may contract rare diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease, from eating too much meat. Their feces are very thin and their bowel movements are generally dissatisfying. Medications, sunbaths, and saunas are not beneficial to them. Swimming is recommended for them.
These are the most outstanding features of each constitution, but one cannot determine what constitution he has merely by referring to these guidelines. But I hope this guideline will help you to better comprehend that there are eight different constitutions among human beings.
